Case Study: How West Cork Distillers Protect their Produce
West Cork Distillers was formed in 2003 by childhood friends, John O’Connell, Ger McCarthy and Denis McCarthy at a time when it made very little economic sense to do so. The early years were far from glamorous, operating in a room at the back of Denis’ house in Union Hall. Fast forward to 2014, they then moved to a new distillery in Skibbereen. It has been quite a journey for West Cork Distillers.
WCD currently operate out of a 12.5 acre site on Marsh Road, with a distillation capacity of 4 million litres of pure alcohol. With distributors across the globe, their award winning West Cork Irish Whiskey is now sold in almost 70 countries. Case sales have risen considerably every year for the past six years and their staff has grown to over 80 people, with the majority based locally in West Cork.
For their new state-of-the-art distillery spanning 12.5 acres, West Cork Distillers wanted to implement a robust security program that would deter intruders. The value of produce stored on site is the bedrock of the business with quantities continuing to grow as the business expands at an exponential rate. The team contacted a Netwatch Security Advisor based on the good reputation of the Netwatch service. The Netwatch team conducted a full site risk survey and highlighted additional vulnerabilities in their security.
The primary objective was for the team at West Cork Distillers to have peace of mind, knowing their site is protected and to sleep easy at night. To achieve that goal, their requirements included a robust security system, with prompt reaction times, that will give their team the peace of mind needed to focus on the success of their growing business.
Netwatch designed and installed a system to meet the challenges identified by their team and to address any concerns. Under the Managed Service offering, Netwatch assumed complete control from site design through installation, monitoring and maintenance.
Now, if there is ever a security breach, Netwatch Communication Hubs are alerted within seconds and the relevant team people at West Cork Distillers are notified. The specific protocol is then followed to ensure the highest level of response and security at all times and in doing site, they join thousands of other businesses now operating in a fearless environment.
“We looked for someone who has a reputation and that we could depend on, Netwatch was the name that was coming up all of the time. The product is beyond exception, but the level of service is a key consideration and that is where Netwatch have excelled in our opinion. We want to be able to sleep easy at night, and with Netwatch as a partner we can do that quite easily ”
